  • In Honor of the Slip

    jcp-half-slip

Once again summer has dawned and I feel the need to inform the next generation that it IS completely necessary to wear a slip under almost all dresses and skirts.  I think that there has become a misnomer that slips are for short skirts or skirts that are itchy.  I am desperate to inform all women that the purpose of the slip is to ensure, that when standing in bright lighting or being back lit in some way, no one can see completely through your skirt and all the way up to your crotch.  Slips can be purchased in almost any store including Wal-Mart and trust me are an absolute necessity in ANY woman's closet.

  • In honor of my husband Brian Hale

Your father is a brave man.
But he's going to need the special
kiss to face his colleagues tonight.

    Father? Brave?

    There are many
    different kinds of bravery.

    There's the bravery of thinking
    of others before oneself.

Now, your father has never brandished a
sword nor fired a pistol, thank heavens.

    But he's made many sacrifices
    for his family...
    and put away many dreams.

    Where did he put them?

He put them in a drawer.
    And sometimes, late at night,
we take them out and admire them.
But it gets harder and harder
    to close the drawer.

    He does.

And that is why he is brave.

  • A Tribute to Ruby Geren

    Tribute to Ruby

At 102 years old a figure from my childhood  passed away.

As a young girl one of my favorite activities was to ride my bike in all the places my parents would allow me to go.  Within that circumference of my house was a old woman's house named Ruby Geren. When the days were hot, cold, mild, whatever, you could be sure to go to her house and experience a balmy 82 degrees. Many times I would pick some flowers (ie: weeds) and clutching them tightly in my fist as I clung to my bicycle would deliver them to her. We would spend time together she would talk and I would gaze around her house looking at the trinkets that never changed but fascinated you each time you saw them.

She wasn't a mentor, She wasn't a world changer, She was simply and always will remain a part of my childhood.

If it comes to mind her funeral is at 11:00am on Friday.  Take a moment and remember the figures from your childhood.  They shape the way you do things today even if it is in the smallest of ways.

  • Baby 1

In case you don't follow my facebook I am pregnant!!!

    Yes I'm totally excited too.

However being pregnant has been more of a spiritual experience than anything else.  We talk all the time about what we can and can't do.  But when it comes down to it you really can do ALL things through Christ!

Amazingly when we believe something with all our being. (ie: I truly believe that stress is the worst possible thing that I can do for my baby) Then we have the ability to call upon God and change the way we act. (ie: I am a yeller. Remarkably the amount I have yelled in the last 13 weeks has been reduced by about 95%.) It has been very convicting and has led me to explore just how much I believe what I believe.  If I truly believe that Christ is our risen Lord and have given my entire being to Him why have I not changed my actions to match my belief.  I have failed him so many times in my witness by my lack of self control. While I do not want to live in a state of guilt I do think I need to confess more often and immerse myself in the Lord, allowing Him to fully renovate my thoughts and actions.

What do you think?  Are we a product of who we are? Or, do we really have the ability in Christ to change everything about ourselves radiating the Glory of Him?
